With the United States’ 250th anniversary, President Donald Trump recently released a report against the Smithsonian, ordering that signs at the Smithsonian museum warning of inaccurate history. The order came after the White House released a scathing report against the Smithsonian Institution’s leadership on July 4. More specifically, the White House released a 162 page report that disputed the Smithsonian’s accounting of American history, arguing that the exhibits discussing historical subjects like slavery and past discrimination are targeted for allegedly pushing a divisive narrative. The order also stated that the museum failed to “appropriately honor” the signer of the Declaration of Independence for Independence Day.
